Our Horses
Sirona’s Horses & Other Animals
Toro
I was rescued from Spain by patron Lucy Rees and came to Sirona in 2013. In Spain I wasn’t treated well and food wasn’t always available to me. Now, I enjoy going on in-hand and ridden walks as well as doing liberty and taking part in sessions.
I am a bright and inquisitive boy who really enjoys to play and receive attention. I am particularly good at synchrony and can sometimes be seen mirroring Hannah’s movements in the school! Because of my past treatment, I don’t like to share food and can be a little defensive around food with other horses
Chapas
I was rescued in Spain by our patron Lucy Rees in 2009 in poor condition with an infected molar tooth. Once I came to Sirona and had my tooth removed, I felt much better and went on to make a lovely riding horse! Now, I enjoy life as a non-ridden horse and go out for walks in-hand.
I have a kind, gentle and curious nature and particularly like learning new tricks! I also enjoy going on foraging walks and doing agility. I am not a fan of the rain and when it’s wet I prefer to stay indoors! I can also be sensitive to groom and due to my history please be gentle around my face.
Lily
I was rescued and am kindly on loan to Sirona from the Mare and Foal Sanctuary. I am a friendly and inquisitive mare who loves sleeping, participating in agility buffets and going on walks! I’m small, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like my personal space. I can be sensitive to grooming so I need patience and understanding at times.
Whilst I am the smallest horse at Sirona (28.5″ tall), I have a big heart and I’d love you to sponsor me!
Autumn
I was rescued by a local owner before being rehabilitated as a child’s pony. I am now kindly loaned to Sirona. Now I enjoy a varied life here where I often take part in sessions – going on walks and taking part in enrichment activities. I am a good-natured and quiet pony. I really enjoy being pampered and could stand for ages being groomed. I often take part in the open day display.
I have a condition called sweetitch, which means I am allergic to bites from flies and midges. Therefore I don’t like it when the flies are out in the summer!
Chasy
I was purchased in 2019, by a very kind volunteer, for Sirona. Before this I used to go to shows and fun rides. I am a very calm and quiet mare who enjoys a fuss and if you scratch the right spot I might also make a funny face!I might have mentioned before, but I really enjoy a scratch – particularly on my neck! I also enjoy going out on ridden and in-hand walks and helping participants in sessions.
I do not like going out alone and much prefer to be with members of my herd. I was chased by dogs in 2020 and therefore I can sometimes be cautious around them.
Rupert Jones
I am a Dartmoor hill pony and I was found abandoned on Dartmoor and rescued by a kind local owner before being loaned to Sirona. I also previously worked as an equine-assisted learning pony which I very much enjoyed. Now, I enjoy going on walks and can often be seen being lead from another horse.
One of my favourite things to do is annoy Autumn. I am a cheeky chap and she doesn’t always appreciate this! Once Autumn has had enough, I will play with Toro who enjoys chasing me! I can be a little sensitive at times and therefore I don’t like loud noises or sudden movements as they can scare me.
Sunny
My owners kindly loaned me to Sirona, but before this I was backed as a youngster to do landwork. This involved pulling a harrow and doing in-hand shows. Now, I enjoy a varied life both ridden and in-hand.
Out riding I can be a little forward-going, but this is only because I love exploring so much! I am gentle and inquisitive and once I know you I love to be groomed. I like my food and can be a bit bossy around it – especially with Toro and my brekkie!
Molly
I was born on Bodmin Moor then lived with a family from the age of four as a children’s pony before kindly being donated to Sirona. I am kind, calm and friendly and good to handle in all ways. I am good at working with children due to my size but equally love working with adults too!
I have a very calm nature and enjoy a gentle groom and fuss! I don’t mind a bath when the weather is nice and I love going on walks in-hand and agility. I have a condition called sweetitch, which means I am allergic to bites from flies and midges. Therefore I don’t like it when the flies are out in the summer!
Pepper and Billy
Pepper (right) is a Toggenburg goat. She is very friendly and loves people. Billy (left) is a Toggenburg X Anglko Nubian goat who is very playful. Pepper & Billy are both kindly on loan to us from Jon & Lyn Perkins and will be assisting us with our new City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Horse or Animal Care course
Ginger
Ginger, our cat, is our part-time pest control officer and giver of cuddles. She can often be found assisting on sessions and enjoys a gentle fuss when she is up for it!
Chickens
We are ex-battery hens which means we used to be kept in very crowded, dirty and noisy conditions for the sole purpose of laying eggs. Now, we are valued as the individuals we are and our personalities can shine through.
Elsie
Elsie the lurcher is a valued member of the Sirona team. She has a lovely way with people and is always on hand to provide a warm welcome. She loves exploring in the woods and is often accompanied by Ginger, our cat.
